This handwoven Kanchipuram Korvai silk sari reflects Parvai’s commitment to preserving the spirit of handcrafted excellence while fostering meaningful connections between artisans and patrons. Woven in Chinna Kanchipuram using traditional three-shuttle Korvai weaving techniques, the sari features an altime favourite purple body adorned with delicate floral motifs in gold and silver zari. Contrasting classic orange borders frame the sari beautifully, carrying intricate floral vine patterns in retrapettu format and rows of the traditional pullinakham (tiger’s claw) motif, lending the textile a timeless Kanchipuram character. The pallu continues this elegant visual language and is paired with a one-metre-contrast orange blouse.
Crafted from pure mulberry silk with a two-ply warp and four-ply weft, the sari is handwoven on a traditional jacquard floor loom. Soft, breathable, hypoallergenic, and easy to drape, it is designed as an heirloom textile that will retain its beauty for generations. Requiring over 200 person-hours of craftsmanship, the sari is sustainably produced, available as a single exclusive piece, and created with artisans being paid dignified wages throughout the process.
Project Anupama, under which this sari was developed, emerged from an in-house design exploration inspired by floral forms and layered colour compositions. The intention was to create motifs that carried softness, depth, and elegance while remaining timeless and wearable. The project was embraced with great enthusiasm by the weaver family, reflecting the collaborative spirit that lies at the heart of Parvai’s work.
