Handwoven Pure Zari Pure Cotton Set Mundu from Kerala

The Set Mundu is one of Kerala’s most enduring symbols of grace and cultural identity. Worn for generations during celebrations, festivals, weddings, temple visits, and everyday life, its understated elegance lies not in excess, but in the perfection of its weave, its purity of materials, and the craftsmanship behind it.

This handwoven Pure Zari Pure Cotton Set Mundu is part of Parvai’s Kerala Cotton Project, an initiative dedicated to preserving Kerala’s rich weaving heritage while creating meaningful livelihoods for its artisan communities. It is woven in the village of Peringammala, near Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram district, a region celebrated as one of the heartlands of Kerala handloom weaving.

Crafted from the finest 100s count pure cotton yarn in both the warp and weft, the fabric is remarkably soft, breathable, and lightweight. Designed to provide exceptional comfort throughout the year, it is naturally hypoallergenic, highly absorbent, and ideal for tropical climates. With every wash, the cotton becomes softer while retaining its structure and elegant drape, making it a textile that only grows more beautiful with time.

The borders are woven using authentic Pure Zari, containing 69% silver, lending the garment a subtle, dignified lustre that complements the purity of the cotton. Unlike synthetic metallic yarns, genuine zari ages gracefully, preserving both the beauty and value of the textile for generations.

Every Set Mundu is woven entirely by hand on a traditional throw-shuttle floor loom, a meticulous process that cannot be replicated by machines. Nearly six artisans participate in the pre-loom preparations, including warping, winding, sizing, and loom setting, before the weaving begins. The weaving itself takes approximately four days, while the complete production process spans nearly two weeks, reflecting the patience, precision, and skill invested in every piece.

At Parvai, we believe that luxury begins with integrity. Every raw material is ethically sourced, every artisan receives fair and dignified wages, and every textile is fully traceable, from the cotton yarn to the hands that weave it. By choosing this Set Mundu, you are not simply purchasing a garment; you are helping sustain Kerala’s handloom traditions, supporting artisan livelihoods, and preserving a craft that has shaped the cultural identity of the region for centuries.

Elegant in its simplicity and timeless in its appeal, this is a garment designed to accompany life’s most meaningful moments while becoming an heirloom that can be treasured and passed from one generation to the next.
