Design Details

Dhruvi is a contemporary interpretation of one of India’s most enduring textile traditions, an aesthetic where beauty is expressed through restraint, proportion, and the disciplined placement of ornament. Rather than filling the surface with dense decoration, the design celebrates the natural brilliance of handwoven silk through carefully measured motifs that have characterised heirloom textiles for centuries. The body is woven with alternating rows of finely detailed floral buttas, each measuring approximately 1.6 cm. Arranged in a precisely calculated geometric repeat, the motifs create a harmonious rhythm across the scarlet silk ground, demonstrating the remarkable accuracy achieved through traditional jacquard weaving. Their restrained scale and generous spacing allow the silk to retain its visual prominence while the delicate zari lends subtle brilliance to the surface. The sari is framed by elegant 5.7-inch borders, thoughtfully composed using a sequence of traditional South Indian design elements. Stylised leaf motifs are enclosed by finely woven Banaras twill lines and the classic Vanki line, creating a border that is both architectural and understated. The measured proportions of the border provide a graceful frame for the body without competing with its simplicity. The pallu culminates in a pair of magnificent Koni paisley motifs, each measuring approximately 30 × 28 cm. Inspired by the ornamental vocabulary found across historic Indian silks and woven shawls, these paisleys are richly composed with scrolling floral vines, blossoms, and foliage, symbolising prosperity, fertility, and abundance. Positioned symmetrically at either corner, they create a striking visual anchor while preserving the balance and harmony of the overall composition. A series of finely woven parallel bands beneath the paisleys completes the pallu with quiet elegance and structural refinement. Every element of Dhruvi reflects a philosophy that has shaped India’s finest textiles for generations, where mathematical precision, balanced composition, and meticulous craftsmanship are valued above excess ornamentation. Woven in Karnataka mulberry silk with 2G tested zari, the sari embodies timeless elegance while remaining deeply rooted in the living traditions of Molakalmuru weaving.
