KALIKA
This classic Kanchipuram korvai silk sari celebrates one of the most beloved and enduring colour combinations in the tradition of South Indian silk weaving, vibrant red contrasted with radiant yellow. Rich in character and nostalgia, the sari embodies the timeless appeal of heritage Kanchipuram textiles while showcasing the technical excellence of traditional korvai weaving. Handwoven in pure mulberry silk with pure zari, a luxurious 2-ply warp, and 4-ply weft, the sari features striking borders adorned with exclusive retta petta design lines comprising intricate kamalam and bud motifs that lend rhythm, elegance, and depth to the weave. The sari culminates in a richly woven grey pallu framed by meticulously crafted border design bands encasing rows of kamalam motifs, creating a sophisticated and distinctive finish. It is paired with a coordinating red blouse featuring retta petta borders and kamalam motifs woven throughout its body. Woven on a traditional three-shuttle loom by a husband-and-wife weaving team who continue to preserve old-school weaving traditions, this piece carries a profound sense of continuity, craftsmanship, and memory. Requiring over 200 person-hours to complete, Kalika offers luxurious comfort, breathability, and ease of drape while retaining the durability and beauty of an heirloom textile. Available as a single piece only, it reflects Parvai’s commitment to ethical production, dignified artisan livelihoods, environmental responsibility, complete traceability, and the preservation of one of India’s most treasured weaving traditions.
