Promise

At Parvai, a sari is more than attire — it is vision made tangible. Every Parvai Original is painstakingly designed and handwoven to precise technical specifications, becoming a legacy piece meant to be worn, cherished, and passed on. We promise complete transparency in our making, dignified wages for our artisans, and a final product that speaks to both aesthetic excellence and ethical integrity. These saris are not seasonal trends — they are forever heirlooms.

Product

This exceptional handwoven Kanchipuram silk sari is a visual symphony of bold structure and delicate detail. It features classic interwoven checks in muted greys, soft whites, and deep reds — a restrained palette that is beautifully punctuated by a vivid chilli red border and pallu. The circular motifs woven across the body are inspired by a 19th-century temple ring, once designed to adorn the hand of a deity — an ode to divine craftsmanship and sacred adornment.

The borders carry intricate mottu bud designs in gold zari, framed by fine red muttu lines, giving the drape rhythm and grandeur. Woven in pure mulberry silk and tested 3G gold zari, the sari is soft, breathable, and made for timeless wear.

  • Dimensions: 5.5 m sari length | 1.27 m width | 0.85 m blouse piece

  • Weight: 730 gms

  • Color Palette: Greys, whites, and reds with gold zari work

  • Blouse: Matching chilli red (included)

  • Care: Gentle hand wash in cold water with mild shampoo. Shade dry. Steam press to restore natural drape. Avoid direct sunlight.

Process

Each Parvai Kanchipuram sari is woven entirely on traditional floor looms at our dedicated looms in Tamil Nadu. All inputs — from mulberry silk to zari — are ethically sourced and rigorously tested for purity.

The weaving process is an exercise in precision and patience:

  • Pre-loom preparation: 21 days of dyeing, warping, and jacquard setting

  • Weaving duration: 28 days

  • Structure: 2-ply warp, 4-ply weft for structure and drape

  • Technique: 3 Shuttle korvai weaving on a Jacquard pit loom

The sari is monitored at each stage by the Parvai team to ensure that it meets our exacting standards. If it doesn’t pass our quality checks, it is archived, not sold.

People

Our saris are not produced anonymously. They are made by nameable, knowable artisans — individuals whose lives and dignity matter as much as the sari itself.

  • Dyeing: Shohan Babu & Team

  • Pre-loom Work: Six skilled hands on warping & sizing

  • Petni (joining): Mala & Shanti

  • Design Lead: Ane Thomas

  • Master Weaver: Murugdoss

  • Weaver: Shakthi

Every person involved in the making of this sari is paid fairly, acknowledged openly, and given the creative space to contribute to its excellence.

Perspective

Commissioning or owning a Parvai sari is not just a transaction — it is participation in a larger story. Our sari-making process invites innovation — sometimes requiring changes in reeds, jacquard layouts, or loom settings — all tailored to a design’s unique requirements. We welcome patrons into this journey, offering loom visit opportunities and progress updates on commissioned works.

The sari is a practice in slowness — in honouring time, labour, and the intimate act of creation. Minor irregularities in motif placement or weave tension are to be expected. These are not flaws; they are the authentic marks of hand-craftsmanship, testaments to a product made for you — not the masses.
