Aanandi: A Contemporary Tribute to South India's Striped Heritage

Some designs endure because they are rooted in a language that has transcended generations. Aanandi draws inspiration from the bold striped and checked textiles of South India, particularly the iconic Chettinad Kandangi, reinterpreting their confident geometry through the artistry of Molakalmuru silk weaving.

Across the body, rhythmic vertical stripes create a graceful sense of height and movement, while structured checks and traditional borders lend balance and architectural elegance. Rather than relying on elaborate ornamentation, the design celebrates the timeless beauty of proportion, colour and rhythm, principles that have shaped South Indian textiles for centuries.

The palette of deep maroon, earthy brown, vibrant ochre and luminous gold zari gives the sari its unmistakable presence. These warm, grounded hues evoke the landscapes and architectural heritage of southern India, while the alternating stripes catch the light beautifully, creating a drape that is both vibrant and refined. Delicate floral buttas soften the geometry, and the richly woven paisley pallu completes the composition with quiet grandeur.

The Craft

Handwoven in Molakalmuru, Karnataka, Aanandi is crafted by master weavers whose families have preserved the region's distinctive silk weaving tradition for generations. Woven on traditional pit looms using the finest mulberry silk and pure zari, every sari reflects exceptional craftsmanship, precision and patience. Produced in small batches, each piece carries the subtle individuality that only a handwoven textile can possess.
