The Heritage of Kalamkari
Kalamkari is among India's oldest textile traditions, with origins dating back over 3,000 years. While the name Kalamkari translates to "pen craftsmanship" (kalam meaning pen and kari meaning workmanship), the historic town of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh became renowned for its distinctive hand block-printed Kalamkari, where intricately carved wooden blocks, natural dyes and generations of artisan knowledge come together to create enduring works of textile art.
Printed in Machilipatnam
This fabric is handcrafted in a heritage Kalamkari workshop in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, one of India's most celebrated centres of block-printed Kalamkari.
Using hand-carved wooden blocks and natural dyes derived from plants, minerals and other natural sources, artisans patiently build each pattern through multiple stages of printing, dyeing and washing. The result is a fabric rich in depth, character and authenticity, where every subtle variation is a mark of the human hand.
Crafted by Traditional Indian Darzi Families
Every Parvai shirt is individually cut, stitched and finished by traditional Indian Darzi families, whose tailoring heritage has been passed from one generation to the next. Working from small home-based workshops rather than factories, these artisans create each garment with patience, precision and pride.
