Handwoven Kanchipuram Korvai Silk Sari
This beautiful sari represents an intricate blend of design elements that contribute to its distinctive aesthetic and craftsmanship. Structured in the legendary korvai format, this piece is meticulously woven on a traditional three-shuttle loom in Kanchipuram. Its prominent 10-inch solid red borders, complemented by a contrasting red pallu and blouse, provide a robust framework for the sari. The borders feature the classic retta petu motifs arrangement using stylized linear designs that highlight intricate detailing.
The body of the sari features vertical ornate gold lines interspersed with spaces that are adorned with stylised Gajavyala( a variation of yaazhi motif) and ornate deer motifs, which enhance its uniqueness and complexity. The richly designed Pallu incorporates floral motif bands and an old-school sensibility, showcasing a panel of cascading floral elements that lend a classic charm to the piece.
This sari is produced on a Parvai loom, operated by a skilled young couple in Kanchipuram, who specialise in crafting elaborate motifs using a Jacquard loom. Their expertise ensures a level of finesse that is characteristic of high-quality textile production in this region.
