Design Details
The body of the sari is woven with elegant 2-inch checks, created through intersecting muthu lines in two complementary colours running across both the warp and the weft. This subtle checked structure lends rhythm and depth to the body while allowing the silk to reveal its natural lustre.
The sari is framed by 7-inch borders featuring a traditional Retta Petai (double-line) construction, enriched with a distinctive watch-strap-inspired geometric pattern. Separating the body from the borders is the timeless Moplah design, a classic arrangement of three parallel lines, traditionally woven in a contrasting colour. Fine Muthu Seeru detailing delicately accentuates this transition, adding definition and elegance to the overall composition.
The sari concludes with a magnificent 18-inch brocaded pallu, where scrolling grapevines and graceful birds unfold across the surface in silk and zari. Inspired by centuries of ornamental traditions found in Indian architecture and decorative arts, the pallu serves as the visual centrepiece of the textile, bringing together history, craftsmanship and contemporary design.
