Nazakat Kanchipuram Sillk
Nazakat is a study in the meeting of material and imagination, where surface becomes a space for artistic expression. These saris are crafted on Parvai’s in-house Kanchipuram silk, woven on our looms in Kanchipuram, where the fabric is developed with an uncompromising emphasis on density, structure, and longevity. Among the richest we offer, each sari carries a substantial weight of approximately 600 grams and is woven to a generous width of 50 inches, creating a textile of remarkable strength and presence. This dense, compact weave forms an exceptional ground, one that holds colour, form, and design with clarity, allowing the sari to retain its architecture while moving with a dignified fall. Kanchipuram silk has long been revered for this balance of strength and grace, where durability meets an unmatched drape quality. On this powerful surface unfolds the artistry of Farrukhabad, where each design begins as a hand-drawn composition, often inspired by botanical studies and classical artistic traditions, and is first rendered in watercolour to develop tonal depth and movement. This artwork is then translated into hand block printing, with master block carvers creating multiple wooden blocks for each layer of colour and detail. Through careful alignment and repeated printing, the design builds gradually, with the dense silk absorbing colour deeply and evenly, allowing motifs to sit with precision and permanence. When the artist’s hand engages with such a surface, the textile transforms, its strength amplifying the delicacy of the drawing, its structure giving weight to expression. In Nazakat, this interplay creates a sari of exceptional value, where one of India’s most enduring silks becomes the ground for artistic intervention, resulting in a piece that is both powerful in presence and refined in detail, unmistakably Parvai in its intent and execution.
