Handwoven, Hand-block Printed Silk Sari

Parvai's Dariya project pays tribute to the profound human creative connection with the earth. Through this artistic endeavour, we celebrate the timeless handprint technique of surface patterning, utilising natural, chemical-free, and vegetable dyes. A team of highly skilled artisans achieves this under the expert supervision of Mr. Roshan Chippa, a 7th-generation master craftsman from Bagru. 

What makes this craft even more inspiring is the ecosystem of communities that work harmoniously to create it. The Kharaudi community designs the blocks, carved from Sheesham wood, while the Chhipas imprint the designs onto the fabric. The Dhobi community carefully washes the fabric, and the Rangrez use natural dyes to create a vibrant palette.

This age-old technique, with its natural and labour-intensive processes and colours, results in a highly sought-after and luxurious fabric. The Dariya project serves as a reminder of the beauty of nature and the incredible achievements that are possible through collaboration, harmony, and gradual transformation.

Garment Care:
Take care of your garments, as they are heirloom pieces that can be passed down through generations. We recommend gently hand-washing these sarees in cool water with mild detergent. Shade them to dry and keep them out of direct sunlight.

- Handblock printed and dyed in natural colours at Bagru, Rajasthan

Both Maheshwar and Bagru are highly commercial craft centres that produce hundreds of thousands of textiles daily. Once, these centres were renowned for creating textiles for royalty, showcasing textures and patterns that were critical to their identity and pride. After much study and travel, we established two critical objectives for Project Dariya. 

First, we aimed to create a high-quality, luxurious handwoven base fabric. Second, we focused on highly exclusive prints, reviving patterns and techniques of the past that are painstakingly slow to produce yet breathtaking in their output. The artisans made one request: they wanted to pursue the slow route, but needed us to acknowledge the laborious nature and the perfection required in execution, and therefore provide fair compensation for their time and effort—something often missing in their fast-paced commercial work where income only made sense with large quantities produced through compromised methods.

It took some time to convince them, but finally, we were set to go. In a year, Project Dariya produces over 15 sarees, a culmination of two printing families working together. Our goal is to produce a truly exceptional sari that is pleasurable to drape and flattering to wear, allowing each wearer to connect with the ethos and purpose behind its creation.

Note: This product is handwoven and handblocked, so slight irregularities may exist. Imperfections and variations in the product cannot be considered defects, as they are inherent in the handmade process. Product colours may vary due to lighting conditions or monitor settings.

Shipping:
We offer free shipping. Upon purchase, the product is dispatched within 7-10 business days. Returns are accepted within ten days of delivery. Cancellation requests will be accepted strictly within 24 hours of placing the order. 

Urgent shipping within 2-5 business days can be arranged at an additional charge, depending on the shipping location.
