Nazakat Maheshwari Sillk
Nazakat is a study in the meeting of material and imagination, where surface becomes a space for artistic expression. These saris are crafted in Parvai’s original handwoven double-ply mulberry silk, developed in Maheshwar using traditional looms thoughtfully modified in collaboration with master weavers to achieve a structure unique to this body of work. Woven slowly at the yarn level with uncompromising attention to strength, lustre, and longevity, the fabric carries a dense yet fluid character, holding form with dignity while moving gracefully with the body. The addition of 3G gold zari introduces a subtle radiance, enhancing the silk without overwhelming its inherent depth. On this richly structured ground unfolds a rare confluence of two living legacies: the architectural precision of Maheshwar weaving and the lyrical finesse of Farrukhabad hand block printing. Each design begins as a hand-drawn composition, often inspired by botanical studies and classical artistic traditions, and is first rendered in watercolour to develop tonal depth and movement. This artwork is then translated into hand block printing, with master block carvers creating multiple wooden blocks for each layer of colour and detail. Through careful alignment and repeated printing, the design builds gradually, with the dense weave of the silk absorbing colour with remarkable richness and clarity, allowing hues to settle deeply and mature beautifully over time. The result is a textile that feels both timeless and contemporary, dignified, expressive, and unmistakably artisanal. In Nazakat, this interplay of material and process becomes an original Parvai expression, where structural silk meets precision printing, and where artistry is not imposed, but realised through integrity, collaboration, and enduring craft.
