About the artist
A Sacred Collaboration: M. Kailasam x Parvai
Since 2017, Parvai has had the rare honour of working with Shri M. Kailasam, one of India's most revered living Kalamkari artists. A National Award recipient, Shri Kailasam Garu's practice is not merely about decoration — it is the preservation of a sacred lineage. His artworks, featured on platforms both national & internation place him in a rare echelon of Indian textile masters.
At Parvai, we do not seek embellishment — we seek meaning, craft lineage, and soul. That is why our sarees are not printed or mass-painted; they are slowly, patiently hand-drawn by this iconic figure and his only collaborator: his wife, Shrimati Kamala.
The Works He Has Created for Parvai
Each sari painted by Shri Kailasam is a bespoke canvas — meticulously planned to match the geometry of our handwoven fabrics. No motif is repeated. No design is commercial. Every piece is one-of-one — made with the same reverence he offers to temple cloths and spiritual scrolls.
His contributions to Parvai include:
-
Mythologically inspired drapes, drawn from the Ramayana, Bhagavatam, and Andhra temple murals
-
Botanical and avian studies, rooted in natural form but imagined through his deeply stylized lens
-
Textiles as visual storytelling, where no element is decorative without meaning
-
Kalamkari works exclusively rendered using natural dyes, prepared by hand from herbs, roots, and minerals
-
Over 25 original pieces, each taking between 40 -80 days just to paint
These are not products. These are spiritual artefacts.
Why It Matters
Working with Shri M. Kailasam is not a design decision.
It is a philosophical alignment.
Parvai believes in slow making, fair pay, and textile revival grounded in respect — not nostalgia. In Kailasam Garu, we found not just an artist but a torchbearer of India’s endangered narrative textile tradition, willing to lend his legacy to a new chapter of responsible luxury.
Every saree he paints for Parvai is accompanied not just by a certificate — but by a story, a lineage, and a silent vow:
That beauty need not come at the cost of exploitation. That art must be preserved by living it.
