Parvai Original Handwoven Kancheepuram Sari

Parvai’s Kancheepuram Saris are built, not merely decorated. Colour, construction, proportion, weight and ornament are developed together so that the sari has presence on the body, not just beauty on the loom. TA beautiful handwoven mulberry silk sari in a dark brown body is contrasted with the heavily adorned deep magenta borders. The borders with the intricate durbarpet design along with the sophisticated motifs on either side give the sari a rich and ornate look. The ash-coloured kuyil kann band on the borders adds to the beauty of the drape. The sari ends in a deep magenta pallu with a broad zari with temple reku on either side. It is paired with a deep magenta blouse with elaborate designs running along the borders. Woven in pure mulberry silk with a 2-ply warp, 4-ply weft and 3G gold zari, the sari weighs approximately 685 grams, giving it richness and structure without compromising comfort.

Made entirely on our looms in Kancheepuram, the sari requires close to ten days of pre-loom preparation followed by around twelve days of weaving. It is designed by Ane Thomas and woven by Shakthivel, with Thaygarajan and his team handling the dyeing, Mala and Shanti working on the petni, and several skilled hands involved in warping and sizing. At Parvai, the making begins long before the shuttle moves: we develop the design, source and test the materials, prepare the loom, supervise the process closely and ensure every artisan involved is fully paid for their work.

What defines this sari is the intelligence of its construction. The heavier ply, broad borders, zari distribution and overall balance are calibrated so that the textile feels substantial yet effortless to wear. With time, the silk softens, settles and acquires the ease that only a well-made Kancheepuram Sari can develop. This is the Parvai idea of luxury: exceptional materials, exacting construction, skilled hands and a sari made to become better with age.
