Kalika is a celebration of old-world Kanchipuram weaving, carrying within it the beauty of timeless design, luxurious silk, and the stories of the people who make it. Handwoven by a weaving couple who continue to work together on their traditional three-shuttle loom, this sari evokes memories of the designs they wove decades ago while offering a fresh interpretation for contemporary patrons. Crafted in pure mulberry silk with a 2-ply warp, 4-ply weft, and 3G zari, the sari features a striking Ganga Jamuna combination of red, black, and yellow, complemented by korvai borders adorned with retapettai lines, Kamalam motifs, and delicate bud forms. The rich red pallu is framed by intricate border bands and rows of Kamalam motifs, while the accompanying blouse is woven with matching borders and extra-weft detailing. Requiring over 200 person-hours of skilled craftsmanship, Kalika is woven using traditional adai and jacquard techniques on a floor loom and represents the collective efforts of dyers, pre-loom specialists, petni artisans, and master weavers. Soft, breathable, hypoallergenic, and comfortable across climates, it is designed to drape beautifully while retaining its elegance for years to come.
