Parvai Heritage Bagru Hand Block Printed Silk Cotton Sari

Bagru | Traditional Fadat Hand Block-Printed Silk Cotton Saris

Woven in Coimbatore on a lightweight silk cotton base and traditionally hand block printed in Bagru, Rajasthan, these saris celebrate a remarkable heritage of miniature printing, natural dyes and generations of inherited craftsmanship.

Produced by the Derawala family of Bagru, whose archives preserve hundreds of traditional patterns, wooden blocks and natural dye recipes, this collection draws particular inspiration from the centuries-old Fadat printing tradition. Historically associated with the dress and cultural identities of Rajasthan's local communities, these patterns are distinguished by exceptionally dense, miniature motifs and intricate repetitions. Printed using finely carved four-inch wooden blocks, the complexity lies in the precision of each impression, the seamless repetition of tiny motifs and the careful layering of colours that creates an almost three-dimensional depth. This demanding skill is preserved in the hands of a small number of highly experienced artisans, whose understanding of alignment, proportion and colour has been refined over decades of practice.

Unlike commercially produced screen or digitally printed textiles that can reproduce the appearance of these patterns, traditional Fadat printing preserves the knowledge, patience and remarkable manual precision required to create them. This distinction lies not simply in how the finished textile looks, but in the extraordinary human expertise behind its making. Printed with natural and vegetable dyes, these saris weigh approximately 420 grams and are soft, comfortable, easy to drape and wonderfully versatile for everyday wear. They reflect Parvai's belief that exceptional craftsmanship need not be reserved for exceptional occasions, bringing generations of artistic knowledge into the simplicity and pleasure of daily dressing.

Care & Product Notes

A few things we would like you to know
Care
Air your Parvai sari after wear and store it in a clean cotton or muslin cover, away from direct sunlight, moisture and plastic. Refold it from time to time so that the same creases do not remain under stress, especially along zari-rich borders and pallus. Heavier saris are best stored folded or gently rolled rather than hung for long periods. Clean only when necessary, preferably through a trusted specialist familiar with fine silk and handwoven textiles.
Handwoven Character
Every Parvai textile is handmade and may carry slight variations in weave, texture, colour, motif placement, finish or dimensions. These are natural to the making process and are part of the textile’s character, not defects. Measurements and weights are approximate.
Colour
Colours may appear differently across devices due to variations in screen brightness, resolution, colour settings and lighting. If you would like a closer colour reference or any clarification before purchase, please contact us.
