Parvai Silk Cotton Chanderi Sari : Sidra

Sidra is a handwoven silk-cotton Chanderi sari created as an exploration of intricacy, rhythm and the precision possible within handwoven ornamentation. Woven in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, it uses pure two-ply silk resham in the warp and fine pure 100s-count cotton in the weft, giving the textile its characteristic lightness, translucency and fluidity while supporting an exceptionally detailed woven surface. The unique rust body carries 2,050 individually woven diamond buttas, each finely articulated and placed in a measured rhythm across the sari. Despite the density of ornamentation, the scale and spacing of the motifs preserve the delicacy of the underlying weave, allowing the textile to remain balanced, refined and visibly light. A traditional twill-woven gold zari band, subtly accented with green, frames the composition, while the pallu introduces diagonally arranged creeper motifs that bring movement and a softer botanical rhythm to the geometry of the body. The sari is woven by WAden Ansari and Saahistha Ansari, husband and wife, working together at a single loom within Chanderi’s hereditary weaving tradition. Working for approximately twelve hours each day, they require around twenty days at the loom to complete one sari. The 2,050 buttas are not merely decorative elements, but a visible record of sustained concentration, repeated handwork and accumulated knowledge, bringing material, geometry, labour and tradition together in a single textile.
